Summary

Description
English: The U.S. Navy destroyer seaplane tender USS Thornton (AVD-11) in port, circa in 1944. She is painted in Camouflage Measure 32, Design 21D. Thornton returned to the U.S. West Coast to the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, California (USA), on 17 February 1944. She remained on the West Coast for the next 10 months conducting normal operations and undergoing extensive repairs. On 3 December 1944, the warship departed to return to the Western Pacific. The photo was most probably taken during that period.
