American Library Association - O through R - The house that Jack built at Newport, R.I., Naval Training Station. Some years ago the Commandant of the Station suggested that it would be a good thing for the recruits in training there to begin to save their pennies to put up a recreation building. A purse was started and his building had been put up with the money collected. Every penny contributed and every bit of labor on the building came from the Jackies. They have turned it over now to the Y.M.C.A. to run, and this the Naval Branch of the Association is now doing. Exterior No. 1 Newport, R.I.
