Die Bundesfestung Ulm in Ulm und Neu-Ulm war – neben Landau, Luxemburg, Mainz und Rastatt – eine von fünf deutschen Bundesfestungen. Diese Festungen wurden durch den Deutschen Bund finanziert und, wie auch zahlreiche Landesfestungen, im 19. Jahrhundert aus- oder neu gebaut. Die Festung in Ulm wurde im Jahre 1859 fertiggestellt. Mit einer polygonalen Hauptumwallung von rund neun Kilometern war Ulm die größte Befestigung des 19. Jahrhunderts in Europa. Der Festungsstatus von Ulm wurde erst 1938 aufgehoben.
