The Tunisian Navy, officially the Tunisian National Navy, is the naval warfare branch of the Tunisian Armed Forces. Founded in 1956 following Tunisia's independence from France, its primary mission is to defend the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity, protect its exclusive economic zone (EEZ), and secure its 1,400-kilometre (870 mi) coastline. The navy also plays a critical role in combating illicit activities such as smuggling, illegal immigration, and terrorism in the Mediterranean Sea.
