| Description |
English: Units of the Grand Fleet in 1917, including the 'Canada' This is apparently a cruise by units of the Grand Fleet in 1917. The battleship in the centre is the 'Canada', launched on 27 November 1913 as the 'Almirante Latorre' for Chile but taken over by the Admiralty in September 1914 and commissioned on 15 October 1915 for the 4th Battle Squadron of the Grand Fleet. She transferred to the 1st Battle Squadron on 12 June 1916, was re-purchased by Chile in April 1920 and was broken up in Japan in 1959. A rigid airship is shown flying overhead. Only one British airship was a rigid with two underslung cars: that was HM Airship '9r' and she was not completed for trials until 27 November 1916 at Barrow. There were many problems with her and she only made one fully operational patrol on 21-22 July 1917. She was deleted in June 1918. [ |
