Description
English: (Monitor # 10) Under construction on Slip Number 3 at the Union Iron Works, San Francisco, California, 30 June 1900. The sign at left identifies the other ships built on this slip, including the U.S. cruisers Charleston, San Francisco and Olympia; U.S. monitors Monterey and Wyoming; U.S. Gunboat No. 14 (USS Wheeling); Japanese cruiser Chitose; and the S.S. St. Paul. The adjacent Slip Number 4 was used to build the U.S. battleship Ohio. Photograph from the Bureau of Ships Collection in the U.S. National Archives.
