Summary

Description The U.S. Navy Curtiss NC-1 flying boat, one of three to attempt the first crossing of the Atlantic by air in May 1919, sinking in the Atlantic. One photograph shows the destroyer USS Harding (DD-91) positioned near the aircraft. NC-1 was commanded by LCdr. Patrick N.L. Bellinger and due to problems with navigation made a forced landing beween Trepassey, Newfoundland and the Azores Islands.
