Français : En l'an de grâce 1520, messire François de la Rivière, réverend père de l'abbaye du Thoronet (Var), ordonne la construction d'une tour sur le bord de mer. Le but était de garantir une protection aux habitants lors des incursions de pirates venant librement s'approvisionner en tout : eau, femmes, rameurs. Avec le temps, sa fonction a changer, protéger le Golfe au moyen de canons, servir de grenier à blé, de prison et de Mairie de Sainte-Maxime à partir de la Révolution. Peinte à de nombreuses reprises par les peintres provençaux comme Ponson, et Nardi, la tour carrée accueille aujourd'hui le Musée Municipal de Sainte-Maxime.
