English: Thorpe Abbotts Airfield - Buildings Housing Museum Collection. Two items of interest housed in one of the small museum exhibition buildings at Thorpe Abbotts airfield. In the foreground is the propeller section of a B17 Flying Fortress which crashed at Needham Marshes on 21st February 1944 with several fatalities. This particular aircraft was not based at Thorpe Abbotts apparently. At the rear is a section of a mural painted on the wall of the officers club on the base at Thorpe Abbotts airfield during World War II. These type of murals were very popular at both RAF and USAAF airbases. More often than not, they usually consisted of rather glamorous females in various stages of undress.
