| Description |
English: Situation of H.M. Ship Fury August 25th 1825 Tinted engraving depicting the Fury and Hecla. An illustration in Parry's account of his third voyage "for the discovery of a N/W passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific performed in the years 1824-1825 in His Majesty's ships Hecla and Fury under the orders of Captain William Parry RN, FRS, and commander of the expedition". Hoppner was captain of the Fury on August 25th 1825, when she had been very badly damaged by ice. The officers' tent ashore "for the messing and sleeping in" is shown. Soon after everything movable was taken from the Fury and she was abandoned. The whole expedition then returned to Britain. |
