Description
English: This is a map detail of the region around the Sinus Magnus (English: Great Gulf). This is the Latin name of the Gulf of Siam, and the Gulf of Thailand. This map titled 'Undecima Asie Tabula' is from the 1486 Ulm edition of Ptolemy’s Geographia, printed by Johann Reger, offers a captivating late medieval portrayal of this part of Southeast Asia based on classical texts. The text "India Extra Gangem" (India Beyond the Ganges) means east of the Ganges river. There are inaccuracies on this map detail.

The 1486 Ulm edition of this map includes additional toponyms and descriptions. The city called "adjatra" (on the east side, near the number 22) is probably the name of Ayutthaya city which existed from 1351 to 1767. The shape of the blue river is similar to the Chao Phraya river.

The original map was made the Greco-Roman polymath Claudius Ptolemy. It's part of Ptolemy's Geographia in the 2nd-century CE. The Ulm edition of Ptolemy was first published in 1482 by Lienhart Holle. This version was made by Johann Reger (1454 – after 1499), who issued another edition in 1486.
