Summary

Description Explosion of the Imperial Japanese Navy's incendiary shrapnel Type 3 shell (San-shiki dan): Filed with 996 incendiary tubes, these tubes ignited 0.5 second after explosion creating fire-wall. Each tube burned for five seconds at 3000 degrees C, producing a flame approximately 5 meters long. It was used by the 46cm Type 94 main gun battery of the IJN Yamato-class battleship for AA defence.
