Description
English: A U.S. Navy Sikorski HSS-2 Sea King helicopter (BuNo 148038) hovers near the destroyer USS Decatur (DD-936), during HSS-2 carrier suitability trials on 17 May 1961. The aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain (CVS-39) is in the background.
148038 was redesignated SH-3A in 1962 and was later converted to RH-3A minesweeper aircraft. It was again redesignated UH-3A and is on display at the Naval Air Systems Command at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland (USA).
