Óleo sobre lienzo de autor anónimo de escuela española. Representa a Juan de Zabala y de la Puente en tres cuartos de pie y en escorzo hacia su derecha. Tiene el cabello oscuro, bigote cano y los brazos cruzados, el izquierdo sobre el derecho, con cuya mano sostiene unos prismáticos. Viste uniforme de capitán general del Ejército, con ros, fajín y sable. Sobre el pecho lleva de arriba abajo: la medalla de África, tres cruces laureadas de San Fernando y la gran cruz laureada de San Fernando.
