Summary

Description

This is the control tower from the original Sharjah Airport. The airport opened in 1932 to serve Imperial Airways, flying HP-42 four-engined biplanes. It later became an RAF station and operated as RAF Sharjah until December 1971. It then remained open for commercial traffic until 1977, when the current Sharjah Airport opened. The old airport’s runway now forms part of King Abdul Aziz Street in Sharjah city. The control tower is now on display as part of the Al Mahatta Aviation Museum, which is on the original airport site. Sharjah, United Arab Emirates
