Description
English: Panorama of Manhattan's West Side from Across the Hudson, celebrating Navy Day and the end of the Second World War, showing ships at harbor including the U.S.S. Midway, the largest ship in the world at the time. Vintage silver gelatin photograph.

Navy Day, a holiday to celebrate the US's naval armed forces, was established in October 1922. The 1945 Navy Day was the first post-war Navy Day, and ships at fifty-six different berths celebrated the event.
