Summary
| DescriptionLot 11559-27 (24382662199).jpg | Lot 11559-27: Atlantic Convoys. Fighting French Corvette Sinks Two U-Boats. The Fighting French corvette Aconit sank two U-Boats by gunfire and ramming while escorting an Atlantic Convoy through a U-boat pack on March 10, 1943. The second submarine had just torpedoed the Royal Navy destroyer HMS Harvester, whose crew watched from the water as the Aconit rammed their assailant. The Aconit steamed to a British port with survivors from the Harvester and merchantmen, and prisoners from the two U-Boats. Shown: German U-Boat prisoners leaving the FFS Aconit which took them on board after sinking the two enemy submarines. Office of War Information photograph. (2016/01/29). |
