English: Anonymous, satirical print about the taking of the town of Arras
During the Thirty Year War (1618-1648). When Louis XIII and his minister Richelieu enter the conflict, their enemies allow themselves irony. Spring 1640, the Spaniards post a message on a gate of the city of Arras :
« When the French will take Arras
Mice will eat cats »
But the French took Arras on 9 August 1640, and the mice did not eat the cats…

Pendant la guerre de Trente Ans (1618-1648). Quand Louis XIII et son ministre Richelieu entrent dans le conflit, leurs ennemis s'autorisent l'ironie. Printemps 1640, les Espagnols affichent un message sur une porte de la ville d’Arras :
« Quand les Français prendront Arras
Les souris mangeront les chats. »
Mais les Français prirent Arras le 9 août 1640, et les souris ne mangèrent point les chats…
