English: Last Invasion re-enactment 1997 This picture, taken on August Bank Holiday, 1997 shows the members of the Sealed Knot society re-enacting the defeat, by local militia and other troops, of a French landing party that came ashore on the coast west of Fishguard in February 1797. In fact no hostilities ever took place here in Lower Town harbour but it provided a picturesque setting for the display. In this photo, the 'French' soldiers in striped trousers can be seen marching away while the 'British' troops in red tunics stand at ease.
(This was only one of the bicentennial year's highlights which included a full-scale community opera based on the events.)
