English: First MARTLET live firingsPictured: HMS Defender’s Wildcat helicopter from 815 Naval Air Squadron.HMS Defenders’ Wildcat Helicopter fired the first operational Martlet missile in the Bay of Bengal as part of the Carrier Strike Group 21 Deployment.Martlet is a laser beam riding missile; it can be fired from the shoulder of ground troops or from Wildcat HMA2. Martlet is the first of the FASGW (future anti surface guided weapons) to be brought into service on Wildcat HMA2 with Sea Venom arriving shortly. Martlet gives the wildcat the capability of defending the carrier against a large number of target sets, including but not limited to; UAV, Helicopters, VBIED, FIAC, FAC, Jet Skis and provide mission kill on much larger platforms due to its high level of accuracy. |
