English: Lieutenant Commander John Henry Ebersole, M.D., Medical Corps, US Navy, using methods to analyze radioactive isotopes, determines source of radiation in the nucleonics laboratory aboard USS Seawolf (SSN-575). Ebersole, stationed aboard USS Seawolf (SSN-575) was responsible for the radiation hygiene and safety of its officers and crew. After receiving special training in radiation medicine at Duke University and Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Dr. Ebersole was assigned to the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission's National Reactor Testing Station at Arco, Idaho, where he conceived and formulated the Navy's first radiation hygiene program for a nuclear powered vessel. Ebersole was the first officer to serve aboard 2 nuclear submarines.
