Description Daniel Williams (1838-1862), born near Willeyton in Gates County, N.C. on November 14, 1838; moved further south (probably Alabama) in 1859 and worked as a teacher. When the Civil War started he joined an Alabama regiment. He was wounded at Shiloh and died in a St. Louis hospital in 1862, Wilson Library, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
