The Japanese light cruiser Kashima and the U.S. Navy destroyer escort USS Thornhill (DE-195) are visible in the background. Kashima was at Jaluit on 22-23 October 1945 to take 911 Japanese soldiers on board for repatriation to Japan. Thornhill was station ship at Jaluit for the whole month. |
