Summary

Description A diagram of the defences of Chatham dockyard post 1820, using K.R.Gulvin's Fort Amherst a brief history and guide, as source, then undated map in Philip MacDougall's Book of Medway. The purpose of the map is to show the later placement of Chatham Barracks, Brompton Barracks and HMS Pembroke and also the development of New Brompton and how it merged with Gillingham and lost its identity. Roads have been added and names after the PMcD map, which have subsequently changed. Comments on improvements welcome.
