Summary

Description View down the flight deck of the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge (CV-45) upon arrival at Sydney, Australia, in 1948 during her world cruise between 9 October 1947 and 11 June 1948. Planes of Carrier Air Group Eleven (CVAG-11) are visible on deck, mostly Grumman F8F-1 Bearcats of fighter squadrons VF-11A Sundowners and VF-12A Fighting Twelve. A Grumman TBM-3 Avenger of attack squadron VA-12A is visible in the center. In the left background are the Australian cruisers HMAS Australia, and behind her HMAS Shropshire.
