Nederlands: Repronegatief. In 1894 was de eerste kolenmijn op Borneo te Pengaron geopend, een gebeurtenis waar zelfs de Gouverneur-Generaal aan te pas gekomen was. Met deze en andere vroege steenkolenmijnen op Borneo ging het niet erg goed. Daar kwam pas verandering in met de oprichting van de Steenkolen Maatschappij Poeloe Laoet in 1903 die op het eiland met dezelfde naam een mijn opende. De Maatschappij legde in hoog tempo een spoorlijn en een weg aan, bouwde barakken voor de koelies, een ziekenhuis en begon grote aantallen koelies te importeren voor het werk in de mijn. De afzet was verzekerd dankzij de gunstige ligging van het eiland als kolenstation op de zeeroutes. (P. Boomgaard, 2001). Schacht V met losvloer |
