Description
English: A map of the British naval attack on Basseterre, 22 January 1759. Seven Years War (1756-63). Oriented with north-east to top (cardinal points).

The author of this map, Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Rycaut, had the command of 700 Marines on this expedition. According to the Naval and military memoirs of Great Britain Vol.II, London, 1790, p.312, by Robert Beatson, Commodore Moore did not permit the Marines to land and act, as intended, as a battalion to support the land forces. However, Rycaut must have made land in order to produce this map.

The ships of war portrayed and named in the bay are: Berwick, Bristol, Burford, Cambridge, Lyon, Norfolk, Panther, Rippon, Roebuck, St George, Winchester, Woolwich.
