Description
Español: La obra representa al Presidente José Manuel Balmaceda acompañado de sus Ministros Claudio Vicuña, Domingo Godoy, Álvaro Casanova Barros y José Francisco Gana y Allendes. La escena corresponde a un consejo de ministros reunidos en el gabinete presidencial en el Palacio de la Moneda, reconocible por la declaración de la independencia que figura en el fondo de la obra, enmarcado entre las columnas republicanas. Tal decoración se mantiene casi inalterable hasta 1973. La obra recrea la mañana del 7 de enero de 1891, cuando se reciben las noticias de la sublevación de la Escuadra.
