Summary

Description
English: Map detail of the Fra Mauro Mappa Mundi (Fra Mauro World Map). Ayutthaya City is shown under the name "Scierno" on an island in the blue Chao Phraya River in the center of the map. The name "Scierno" is derived from the Persian "Shahr-I-Naw", meaning 'New City'. The surrounding area is the approximate location of the Ayutthaya Kingdom (1350-1767) and other areas in Mainland Southeast Asia. "Sinus Gangeticus" is the ancient Roman name for the Gulf of Thailand. Note: this map is upside down, south is up.
