Description
Nederlands: Dit gezicht op het stadhuis van Batavia behoort bij het rijk geillustreerde reisverslag van de Amsterdamse wereldreiziger Johan Nieuhof. Nieuhoff vergezelde van 1655 tot 1658 een delegatie van de Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie naar de Keizer van China. Na zijn terugkomst liet hij zijn belevenissen publiceren. Het boek was een van de grote bestsellers van zijn tijd.
English: This view on the city hall in Batavia was included in the richly illustrated travel journal of Johan Nieuhof, a worldtraveller from Amsterdam. Nieuhoff accompanied from 1655 to 1658 a delegation of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) to the Emperor of China. After his return he had his journals published. The book was one of the great bestsellers of its time.
