הערות: התקופה הצלבנית בארץ ישראל התחילה ב־1099 לספירה והסתיימה באופן סופי כאשר אחרון הצלבנים עזב את ארץ ישראל בשנת 1291 לספירה. הצלבנים כבשו שטחים נרחבים במזרח התיכון מידי הממלכה האיובית, ובשנת 1178 החלו לבנות מבצר שישלוט על מעבר הירדן, למרות התנגדותו של השליט האיובי צלאח א־דין. הבנייה נעשתה על ידי המסדר הצלבני הטמפלרי ובסיועו של המלך בולדווין הרביעי. האיובים ניסו לעצור את הבנייה, ולבסוף, לאחר מצור של חמישה ימים, כבש צלאח א־דין את המבצר והרס אותו.
